This creative brief involved the regeneration of a cluster of old buildings and redundant land in Herefordshire belonging to Claston Farm, a hop farm widely known for several unique varieties. Our design included a cider and hop museum, cafe and restaurant, hotel, exhibition centre, 130 seat auditorium, craft workshops and live-work units, known as ‘humble tofts’. As the project needed outside backing, part of our brief was to undertake negotiations for Objective 2 funding from MAFF, and also to draw in financial support from the RDA. Our proposals were accepted and subsequently given the go ahead by the Secretary of State.
