Ralph Allen Yard
A competition-winning mixed-use development in a sensitive location above Bath for the Homes and Communities Agency and Cox Development Partners Ltd. The brief describes two distinct elements – a cluster of Zero-Carbon ‘Code 5’ sustainable houses (the first in BathNES, using prefabricated, super-insulated, timber-frame technology) and ‘Cornerstone‘, a BREEAM-rated community and education centre (relating to the labyrinth of disused shafts and tunnels which lie beneath the site). Elements of historic on-site buildings have also been integrated into the final scheme, creating a discrete and relevant development at the heart of the local community.
